Family and Dog Friendly Woods in South Yorkshire

Exercise is a wonderful thing. It releases endorphins, improves both physical and mental health and helps you sleep better. It’s also a brilliant hobby and can even ease stress.

Getting outside with the family and dog is the perfect way to relax ..... With the help of our online community, I have pulled together a selection of woodlands which are great for exploring and trying something new:

1. Anston Stones Woods S26- a good selection of trails, woodland and a stream, If you fancy a good 5 mile walk - map here

2. Wickersley woods, Rotherham - Park on Wood Ln (S66) and venture into the woods via the paths. Lots to explore and even a tree swing to find. Fancy a little walk? map here

3. Wombwell woods, Barnsley - beautiful for exploring with children

4. Wharncliffe Woods, S35 - great for exploring, a dam for paddling and crags to climb. Fancy a walk? Map here

5. Shirebrook Valley, S13 - Lots of trails to explore from easy going to slightly adventurous. Free car park too.

7. Vicar Lane, Woodhouse S13

8. Eckington Woods, Sheffield - Park at Eckington Church and wander down the paths to venture into the woods. Or view a series of walks here

9. Whitwell Woods, Worksop - amazing to escape and get lost. Follow the trails or find your own way. These woods are fab for exploring.

10. Linacre Reservoir (and woods), Cutthorpe - park at the Peacock pub in Cutthorpe and venture to the reservoir through a series of woods and trails.
