Yorkshire Reservoir Walks & Pub Lunches

Updated: Dec 29, 2020

Looking for a day out in #Yorkshire or The perfect Sunday afternoon treat. There is something about being near water and walking around a lake that is just revitalizing. The children seem happy and #dogs love it, often it involves a #dogfriendly pub lunch at the end of it too. Maybe that's why i like it so much! #SouthYorkshire has plenty to offer, here are my top 5 Reservoir Walks:

1. Dam Flask Reservoir - Situated in Low Bradfield, this is a firm favourite of ours. We come here a few times a year and it never fails to impress. A good 5-6km walk around the reservoir, with good paths and woodland to explore. Free parking is available and there is opportunity to feed the ducks and paddle in the stream in the village. Dog friendly pub - Old Horns Inn. Absolute winner.

2. Langsett Reservoir - Just east of Stocksbridge, you will find #LangsettReservoir. A good 3 mile circular route, with some inclines. It is great for scenic views and incorporates moorlands. Dog friendly pub - The Waggon & Horses. Go with an appetite.

3. More Hall Reservoir - We have only just discovered this one, south of #Stocksbridge. There are two walks of different lengths and can be up to 3.4 miles. But lots of opportunity to explore woodland and be near the water. Dog friendly pub - Castle Inn, Bolsterstone.

4. Linacre Reservoirs - With 3 reservoirs in total and woodlands and moorlands to explore, this could be ideal for those looking for adventure, off roading and ideal for making up your own route. Toilets and picnic area. #Dogfriendlypub - The Peacock at Cutthorpe

5. Derwent & Ladybower reservoirs - for those with older children or feeling adventurous, a good 5.5 mile walk will see you head to the hills with plenty of woodland and moorland to explore. Able to reach some spectacular views. Parking at the Fairholmes visitor centre. Takeaway kiosk also available. Map and details here: Dog friendly pub - The Ladybower Inn, of course.
