Sandall Beat Wood, Doncaster

Peaceful woodland and crazy adventure playground are pulled together in this great setting in Doncaster. Don't underestimate this place as you drive down Sandall Beat Road, adjacent to the racecourse, thinking, where the hell am I going.

Address: Sandall Beat Road, DN2 6JP

A small, free car park awaits you at the bottom and roadside parking is also available as it can often get quite busy. Once you are unloaded, there are entrances into the woodland and a map for reference. There are a number of trails and waymarkers to follow, and the playground is well signposted.

With lots of woodland to explore, have a walk around the are and see what wildlife you can spot. The paths are buggy friendly and ideal for bikes. Its a great peaceful setting, and don't let the business of the car park put you off, as once you are in the woodland, its difficult to bump into anyone.

Unfortunately, there are no other facilities. No toilets or cafe. There is normally an Environment Centre and Sensory Garden, however these are currently closed.

In the middle of the woodland, you'll find a great adventure playground. Its full of equipment for young and older children alike, so something to keep everyone entertained. Tunnel slides, open slides, climbing equipment, and swings. Although the playground is gated, there are plenty of picnic benches around and railings to tie the dog up, so you can always be close by. There is often an ice cream van parked up at the weekend too.

If that's not enough, the wood often holds 'story trails' too which are great to keep the little ones entertained. We also saw a few conker trees and squirrels (if you fancies taking some nuts to feed them!).

If you need to let the dog off the lead, then its a great opporunity to do so. Not very busy (and we went on a sunday afternoon) but be mindful of the stream/water in the middle as it didn't look very clean!

Overall, its a great setting for exploring and playing. Its something to keep everyone entertained.
